The Author's Tale
Shellie D. Smith was born and raised in Southeastern Michigan. She has been an
elementary teacher for over 16 years in both public schools and Waldorf schools.
She graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula, and then went on to complete her Waldorf Handwork Teacher certification at the Rudolf Steiner College in
Fair Oaks, California. Shellie founded Camp Oginali, a Waldorf Summer Camp at the
Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork, in Carbondale, Colorado.
Fiber arts have always been a source of great inspiration and joy. She spends
her free time knitting, crocheting, felting, and dyeing with natural plant dyes. Her love of storytelling began when she became a trained volunteer storyteller for Spellbinders, an international non-profit dedicated to inter-generational storytelling in the oral tradition. She spent years as a volunteer storyteller with Spellbinders, telling tales at local schools, libraries, and after school programs. Shellie D. Smith currently lives on Maui and teaches handwork at the Haleakala Waldorf School.
